Environmental Impact

Our Role in Global Methane Emission Reduction

BEVL is a methane abatement project

that produces biomethane from organic waste, offering a sustainable energy solution while reducing harmful methane emissions. By turning waste into renewable energy, the project helps mitigate climate change and supports environmental sustainability.

Methane is responsible for at least 25% of global warming25%

It has 28 times the global warming potential of CO₂ over a 100-year period.

Emission Reduction Potential

Our project has the potential to reduce up to 491,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e) per year through:

Sustainable processing of food waste

Effective management of animal manure

Replacement of fossil fuels currently used by end-users

BEVL is on track to become the largest private-sector holder of voluntary carbon offsets in Pakistan, focusing on carbon avoidance at scale.

Water Conservation

Our baseline analysis reveals a significant, often overlooked environmental challenge:

This practice not only depletes valuable freshwater resources but also leads to widespread dumping of untreated organic waste, contributing to environmental degradation and waterway contamination.

Through BEVL’s biogas project:

Water previously used to remove waste is conserved

Organic waste is repurposed, not disposed of

Contamination of local water bodies is significantly reduced, supporting public health and ecosystem resilience

Alignment with Global Goals

BEVL is committed to aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations. Our initiatives contribute meaningfully to global and local development through:

Promoting health and well-being

via sustainable waste management practices.

Removing organic waste from local water sources

reducing waterborne diseases and minimizing odor pollution.

Reducing emissions by 491,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually

through carbon avoidance strategies.

Displacing fossil fuel use

in both domestic and commercial settings with renewable energy alternatives.

Creating job opportunities

with a focus on inclusivity and empowering women.

Raising awareness and building capacity

in local communities around sustainable energy solutions.

Through these efforts, BEVL is driving long-term environmental, social, and economic impact while staying aligned with 11 of the UN’s SDGs.
